CES I STILL CAN’T WORK THE FUCKING TUMBLR. SOMEONE HELP. Also this gif bothered me to start with, but the more we go back and forth the more it’s starting to creep me out.
Up top where it says “Reblog Photo Post as…” click the “as…” and you get options to change it. Change it to a Text post, and here we go, all the words, none of the random gif I threw aboard.
This is one of my big problems with Charles, honestly. I feel like he tries to shield Erik (and everybody, but particularly Erik). I don’t think he can really fathom what Erik has been through- he’s seen it, and he knows what Erik felt, but I don’t think he’s ever really grokked it. I just have a really hard time seeing him as anything but spoiled and idealistic.
It’s not Charles’s place to decide what will and will not destroy Erik. That’s Erik’s responsibility and his call. So.
Good points all. My main conflict over Charles is that I find the XMFC character to be delightfully fucked up and much more interesting than any Xavier characterization I’ve ever come across before— I think my very first reaction post about XMFC said something like, OMG, Charles is kind of a terrible person in this and I love it. But then I watched ALL the James McAvoy movies, and Sab. JAMES MCAVOY. I picture his face and suddenly I’m buying into this notion of ♥CHARLES♥ all sweetness and light and hearts and flowers and rainbows and so on. I try to moderate the urge when I’m writing, but the pull is strong!
Sometimes I wonder about Raven in this context (you should know by now that I wonder about Raven a lot, I think it’s pretty clear). She grew up with him, and I don’t know if she would think that was strange at all. I mean, supposedly he doesn’t do it to her, but I can see her having been conditioned to think that using your powers on unsuspecting people is totally fair game, as long as they don’t notice.
Definitely seems to be Charles & Raven’s attitudes. And really, seeing as how he takes a scientific approach, and considering what he makes of the school later, I can see Charles deciding that they didn’t develop these mutations in order to not use them to their advantage. That would be unnatural! They should develop their mutations to their fullest potential, and if they can’t tell anyone about them, if they’re using them to fool people and hide, then… that’s the world’s fault, not theirs. I doubt Charles would put it that way, but I bet that’s what he’d mean. Raven would say it! :D
Yep. And I wouldn’t find him nearly so interesting if he was careful about using his powers.
♥♥♥♥♥♥...have a hard time getting into other Charleses, even younger Charleses, where you...
myself, that’s...from Galactus or some sort of Torchwood monster, not Charles Xavier.
Very true. To be honest, I think...certainly some of
