Sorry can’t form thoughts
Bless his tiny heart. <3 <3 <3
Man, I love Steve, but every time I look at a picture of Steve, BD!Erik just makes little whimpery noises in my head and then trots off to the gym to lift heavy things.
“I feel like I should apologize,” Steve says. “I know you probably expect…” He lifts his fingers to Charles’s temple, hesitates, brushes them back through his hair.
Charles gives him a small smile. “That’s the last thing I expect.”
“I would, only… it’s not that I have anything to hide from you. But you know I was in the service.” Steve visibly weighs his words. “There’s nothing I saw that I wouldn’t stand by. But those experiences weren’t just mine. I don’t feel right about sharing them. People trusted me…” He looks searchingly at Charles.
“I understand,” Charles tells him.
“If you can just read feelings, though?”
“I can, yes.”
Steve relaxes a little and smiles: it’s the slightest bit nervous, but true. “I can share that. I’d like to.”
Charles has to move closer, has to go up on his toes to really hug him. After all these months, just being touched would be enough. He wouldn’t have looked for this from Steve, but easing his shields and feeling Steve’s relief and happiness, it’s a gift to have it. “Thank you.”
